IDC: Android continues to rule the smartphone world in Q2 2012

Android remains at 68.1 percent with iOS at 16.9 percent, according to IDC, while Canalys had these figures at 68.1 percent and 16.4 percent. BlackBerry follows closely in third with Symbian right on their heels. Windows Phone is trending up, but figures still show 3.5 percent with some Windows Mobile sales still included in this figure.

Worldwide Smartphone OS Market Share

It is pretty incredible to read that Samsung contributed to 44 percent of Android’s success while seven other vendors took up the rest of the 24.1 percent. I wrote yesterday about HTC and how they aren’t helping out that much with this figure. It is also impressive that iOS still showed double digit growth, 27.5 percent, given that the iPhone 4S is nearly a year old now. BlackBerry is down 40.9 percent while Symbian is way down 62.9% to just 4.4% of the market.

HTC ‘Endeavor C2’ rumored to be a spec-bumped One X for late 2012

HTC’s flagship One X may be set to receive a minor specification bump before the end of 2012, according to reports from Stuff. The re-vamped model is known only by its codename “HTC Endeavor C2” — note that the original One X was “Endeavor”. It’ll allegedly ship with a souped-up 1.7GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU, along with an “improved” battery, new color options and urBeats earphones included in the box. Stuff also claims that the new “Endeavor C2” will be compatible with all existing One X accessories, which to us implies that the chassis design will remain identical.

Essentially, the C2 could be to the One X what the Sensation XE was to the original Sensation last year — the same design, with slightly upgraded internals. The news also converges nicely with rumors we’ve heard from T-Mobile USA, suggesting an “HTC One X+” may be arriving on that network later in the year.

Some software enhancements are reported too, including ClearVoice tech for improved voice call quality, in addition to “HTC Watch 2,” a new version of the HTC movie streaming service. Though not confirmed in today’s leak, we suspect Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 4.1 may also be on the cards, depending on the timing of the eventual release.

Speaking of which, the Endeavor C2 is said to be slated for a UK release around Oct. 1, with on-contract prices reportedly around £5 more per month than the original One X. HTC isn’t expected to have a big showing at this year’s IFA event, but if this release date turns out to be accurate, it’s possible we might see an official announcement sooner rather than later.

HTC’s 2012 Q1 Earnings Are Out and They Aren’t What HTC Wanted

Taiwanese manufacturer HTC released their  unaudited earnings for the Q1 of 2012. HTC earned a total revenue of NT$67,790 million, which is a decrease on their year-on-year of 34.92%. January 2012 was a bad month for HTC compared to January 2011. They had a 52.55% decrease from year-on-year(YoY). Things are looking up for HTC though. Even though they reported loses in February and March. The decline is slowing and looks to be turning around for HTC. The YoY for February was just under -37% and the YoY for March was just under -17%. It does look as if HTC is righting their ship and with the new HTC One line releasing, things can only get better from here. What do you think? Can HTC turn it around and post some earnings this year? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
