Moto G in Verizon Retail Packaging Leaked, Could be Priced at Only $100 (Updated: With Release Date)

We have known that Verizon plans to bring the Moto G to its network sometime in Q1 of 2014 since November, but this afternoon, we are seeing that this device is turning into something much more than just a cheapy pre-paid phone. It’s actually not that bad – priced at $179, it features suitable specs for anyone who looks to score a phone off contract that won’t either a) snap in half due to cheap materials or b) suffer from poorly-made software and other issues. Either way, as a few folks are finding out, the Moto G is a great phone for the price.

Thanks to a new leak, the device has been spotted in apparent Verizon retail packaging. According to the leaker, the device might even come with an outrageously low price tag of just $100. Seriously, just a $100. That info is nowhere near confirmed, but if they happen to have their hands on the retail packaging already, then it’s quite possible that they know Verizon’s future plans of marketing the device for an insane price.

Regardless, if the Moto G is launched on Verizon for just $99, Moto and Verizon might see crazy sales taking place. Would you pick one up for $100?

UPDATE: Sources have told us that the device launches at Best Buy on January 9. That is the “hard street date.”

[New App] Black Friday Deal Finder 2013

Can you believe the holiday shopping season is almost upon us, pressing down with the weight of a thousand suns and squeezing the last bit of cash out of your bank account? Black Friday deals can be a little misleading – not everything is actually a deal anymore. The new SlickDeals Black Friday app is now in the Play Store to help you save some cash later this month. If that’s not enough, FatWallet dropped its Black Friday app in the store a few weeks ago.

The SlickDeals app has plenty of features, including notifications of new and updated ad leaks, full scanned ads, filtering, and discussion boards. The design is not very Android-y, but it still looks pretty good. Note, this is separate from the regular SlickDeals app, which lists all the deals posted to the site. The FatWallet app looks a little less polished, but it’s not the quality of the app that matters, right?

Both apps are free in Google Play and already brimming with Black Friday deals. With both the big players in deal-finding on Android, you should be able to plan ahead a bit better and not end up storming the doors at Best Buy at 5AM.

Best Buy Says ICS “Delayed” For DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX And HTC Rezound Will Get ICS On April 6th

First, Best Buy said the DROID RAZR, RAZR MAXX, and HTC Rezound would be getting Ice Cream Sandwich on April 4th. When that didn’t happen, Motorola Mobility tweeted that yes, the RAZR and MAXX would indeed be getting ICS, but no official date had been announced. Right after that, a soak test for the two Motorola handsets started, but it was just a bug fix build… still not ICS.

Now, Best Buy has updated their systems with the following:

Updated April 4: The Motorola RAZRs (32GB and 16GB) and MAXX updates scheduled for Wednesday, April 4 have been delayed. Watch Employee News for more details.

Software updates are coming for Verizon handsets next week to bring the OS to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Updates will be delivered via standard Over the Air (OTA) update.

  • Friday, April 6: HTC Rezound

It’s interesting that Best Buy would say that ICS has been delayed since Motorola is saying an official date has yet to be announced. More than likely, Best Buy knew of the April 4th soak test update and assumed it would be ICS, not the bug-fixing 6.12.181 build. But apparently the HTC Rezound is still on track for an April 6th ICS update. Or at least that’s when Best Buy thinks it will happen. That’s pretty much right now, so owners of the Rezound can start checking for updates! Did you get it yet?

Best Buy is offering an extra $50 on top of the normal trade-in program on select Motorola smartphones starting April 8

If you’re in the market for a Motorola Atrix 2, Photon 4G, or the DROID RAZR you might want to consider Best Buy’s latest deal. As you might already know, they have a trade-in program in which you could receive up to $200 in the form of a Best Buy gift card for the value of your old mobile phone. To top it off, starting April 8 they’re also offering an additional $50 discount off the smartphones listed above as long as you trade in any mobile phone. So it’s basically a double dipping sale, Grab $50 off the purchase price plus get a Best Buy gift card for whatever the value is of your old phone that you’re trading in. The deal ends on May 5.

They also have another deal in which they’re giving $50 off of any Sprint smartphone, plus an additional $50 for trading in an HTC EVO 4G. This might be a good deal, but I would only trade my EVO 4G for the new EVO 4G LTE that was just announced yesterday. Unfortunately pre-orders for that one don’t start till May 7, and it’s unknown if they would honor it or when this particular deal ends.
