Motorola Xoom 3G finally gets Ice Cream Sandwich in the UK

More than a month after the European roll-out of Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for Wifi-only Motorola Xoom tablets begun, the British 3G version of the Xoom is finally getting its ICS update. That’s right — until recently, the UK 3G Xoom was two versions behind the U.S. Wifi version, which recently got bumped up to Jelly Bean. We’ll just let that sink in for a second.

In any case, Eurodroid is reporting that those who’ve stuck it out with the 3G Xoom for the past year or so have been rewarded with an OTA update to Android 4.0.4, and with it the knowledge that they’re only one major version behind Xoom owners across the pond. If you’ve got a 3G Xoom, head to Settings > About tablet > Software updates and finally kiss goodbye to Honeycomb.

Now begins the wait for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though given the timing of this most recent update, we certainly wouldn’t hold our breath. If you’re feeling brave (and impatient), you may want to check our friendly Motorola Xoom forums for tips on rooting and flashing a Jelly Bean ROM on there manually.

Sony Xperia U all set for Three UK

UK network Three looks set to bolster its entry level line-up by selling Sony’s Xperia U on both contract and Pay as You Go. The Xperia U was introduced to the world during the Mobile World Congress however it was quickly overshadowed by the more glamorous high-end phones on display.

In case you’re wondering, the Xperia U is an Android 2.3 device sporting a 3.5″ FWVGA reality display, a 1GHz dualcore processor and a 5MP camera capable of 720 HD video capture. Whilst these are modest specs, the phone will be available for a wallet-friendly £169.99 SIM-free or for £20 per month with no up front charge on a 2 year contract.

This solid, stylish handset is also expected to hit the shelves of O2, Orange and T-Mobile in the coming weeks. If Three’s deals float your boat then hit the source link to get your order in.

Vodafone UK To Carry 32GB Samsung Galaxy S III Model Exclusively At Launch

It’s only a few weeks before we see the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone in Europe, so it’s safe to run out to your local mobile carrier to grab the 32GB version, right? Wrong. Most carriers will likely carry a 16GB version of the device at launch, but there’s one carrier that has an exclusive model that will be available. Vodafone UK announced through its Twitter page that it will indeed carry the 32GB model exclusively, in addition to the standard 16GB model. It looks like Vodafone is trying to have the leg up on attracting customers to its network thanks its newfound exclusivity.

The 16GB and 32GB versions of the smartphone will be available on May 30th. Feel free to start drooling in the meantime.

Those of you who live in the UK can shout FINALLY at the top of your lungs if you want as Clove UK is now offering accessories for your Galaxy Nexus devices. While it’s been almost 6 months since the initial release of the device, those in the UK have been made to wait patiently while their US counterparts have been able to purchase accessories since release day. We did inform you back in January that we’d see official accessories then, but it got delayed to February and well, got delayed again. However this is no longer the case. Upon checking the Clove site, you will find various accessories that include:

  • An HDMI Dock
  • A Desktop Dock
  • An MHL/HDMI Adaptor
  • Spare batteries
  • A Spare Battery Charger

As you can see the only thing missing is the car dock. However given that these other accessories are available, the car dock can’t be too far behind. So if you live in the UK and are interested in snagging an awesome dock for your device hit the source link below. You can pick up the HDMI dock for £42 (roughly $68) and the desktop dock for £49.99 (roughly $81). I don’t know about you folks out there on that side of the pond but this would definitely get me excited if I had to wait that long.

The Next Galaxy Coming To Vodafone UK

The Samsung Galaxy S III… or should we say the “Next Galaxy”, has not even been officially announced yet (that will happen May 3rd), and Vodafone UK is already confirming it will be getting the device. It’s certainly unusual for any carrier to announce it will be carrying a handset before it even has an official name, but it’s most likely going to most carriers in the UK anyway, so why not start hyping it up?
